Product commercials benefit from real people in the frame, so instead of handing the campaign entirely to 3D, Microsoft built it around moments of real interaction with real hands on real hardware. The creative concept, Original by Design, demanded both worlds at once: the warmth of lived experience and the precision of something that feels almost impossible: a perfect use case for motion control.

Approach & Methodology

ILLUXION came in as the motion control partner, not the production company. Our job was to give Microsoft's internal VFX team footage they could easily work with: repeatable, frame-accurate camera moves that matched precisely to 3D compositing passes. The robot handled that — every hero move was programmed once and rerun with a consistency no human operator can match, exporting clean camera data the VFX team could drop straight into their pipeline. That precision meant post moved fast: no drift, no surprises, no frame-by-frame corrections eating into the timeline. The talent interaction moments were trickier — the robot had to move around real people, so choreography accounted for both. Lighting, timing, and the arc of each move were dialed in to serve the screen replacements and UI animations added in post. The opening sequence, built entirely in 3D, set a high bar for everything that followed, so the live-action portions couldn't afford to feel like a different production. Motion control kept the live-action footage in step with it — the seam stays invisible, exactly as it should. Shot at ILLUXION's studio in Remond.
